Frankenstick

Since we're still waiting for the Wenatchee to heat up for steelhead, Frank C. and I headed westward to fish some tidal water for fall run kings. Frank has spent the summer building a rod specifically for this trip. He named it the "FRANKENSTICK" and it lived up to its name on a few of these fresh out of the salt fish.

Steelhead Anyone??

Well we did an early drift this morning, had to make it pretty quick so we never worked any particular section of water for too long. We put on the water at 6:00 and hit the take out at 9:00. Our final tally for the morning was one whitefish, one small trout, and no steelhead. Not exactly the HOT opening day action we were hoping for. We talked with a F&W staff who said he'd surveyed 30+ fisherman this morning and there were no steelhead to speak of. He knows their are fish in the system because they've been spotting them lately. The river colored up quick today from Cashmere down, and it's risen 400 cfs in the last 24 hours and is still climbing. If anyone else hit the water and had different results let us know. It would be nice to hear that someone hit steelhead today!

Steelhead Opener on the Wenatchee Tomorrow!

Rigging the boat up for tomorrow morning. Floating with Andrew C. and Frank C. May be crowded out there but it should be fun! Any day on the water is a good day. And a day on the water with good friends is even better.

More Sockeye! View at www.familylinesnetwork.blogspot.com

We had another fantastic morning out on the boat today. Captain Sarah and lead rigger Jeb nailed it and we limited out with 8 fish in two hours. Niiiice! I think the best part for me was to share the time with my little "L-man" who was able to both reel in and net his first sockeye salmon of his fishing career. Thanks for another memory maker Butler fam!

Lake Wenatchee sockeye fishing

Jeb and Jon using the old "hold your fish closer to the camera to make them look bigger" trick. Thanks for a great morning on Lake Wenatchee Jeb!
